Lights suitable for every room in your home

All parts of a house or apartment should be individually lit according to their characteristics and their uses, whether it is a bathroom, a bedroom, a kitchen, or living room. In the field of interior design, lighting is a central theme that is taken into account from the beginning of the design process. Different types of light intensity and colour influence the sensation of well-being that you feel at home. Therefore, we strongly recommend you to plan the lighting of your rooms at the very beginning of development, if it is possible, of course. At lamps.eu you will discover how ceiling lights, floor lamps, wall lights, and other lamps work together to create the most pleasant atmosphere for you.

The right lighting for every room

We recommend that you use several light sources in most rooms. A ceiling light may be enough to satisfy a hallway, but a kitchen or living room will absolutely need multiple lights to complement its purposes. An essential component consists of a healthy balance between direct and indirect lighting. While one light allows you to direct strong light towards a specific point, the other light is softer on the eyes and is more synonymous with peace and comfort. Be careful to avoid strong light-dark contrasts because it creates an imbalance in your room's atmosphere. Obviously, the style of your fixtures must fit your décor, whether it is based on the same theme, or as a contrasting effect to break any feelings of uniformity. Many of the following ideas and principles will also apply to office & commercial lighting settings.

Bathroom lighting

In addition to aesthetic considerations, certain technical elements need to be taken into account, particularly in the case of bathroom lights. An IP rating with a minimum rating of X4 (e.g. 24, 34, 44) is highly recommended because it indicates that the electrical component of the lamp is protected against water splashes from all directions. It is even mandatory to install IPX4 lighting (or greater) within 60cm of a sink, shower, or bath. The primary light source is often a ceiling dome light, and is completed by a few wall lights in the appropriate places. Spotlights above the mirror are also convenient for shaving or applying make-up more easily.

Hallways, entrances, and staircases

Often it takes a relatively simple ceiling light to effectively illuminate a modestly sized entryway. Of course you can also opt for a majestic chandelier if you have the space and a consistent ceiling height. Some spotlights or wall lights can be used to complete the lighting of a mirror or a coat rack. Hallways and staircases are intersections and they must be illuminated so as to minimise the risk of falling: Make sure your steps are sufficiently lit, meaning there should not be too many shadows on them. Depending on the length of the staircase, it is advisable to set up multiple hallway lights. Wall lights are particularly useful in hallways because they provide an impression of grandeur when placed at regular intervals. And last but not least, there is a special section for garage lights that showcases durable, bright, and uniform lighting that are perfectly suited for long-term use in a garage.

Kitchen lighting

Without a doubt, the kitchen requires the most accurate lighting: Countertops, storage areas, and cooking surfaces need to be properly illuminated. For countertops, the ideal choice consists of recessed spotlights, either in the ceiling or under the cabinets or other furniture. This gives you a strong light focused on a specific point. Depending on your preferences for meals, you may need different kitchen lights if you eat in the kitchen. Choose ceiling spotlights to provide light to your table, while also having enough light for your storage areas. A pendant light accentuates the comforting effect by bringing a soft light directly over the table. Don't eat in the kitchen? In this case, a ceiling light providing uniform lighting for the room will suffice.

Living room lighting

Depending on the size and layout of the living room, you should consider between 3 and 5 lights for optimal illumination. Here too, a ceiling light or pendant lamp provides consistent and sufficient light for any activity, depending on your ceiling height. Our advice: choose a high-end light. The living room is the heart of your home and the ceiling light is in the centre, so it should enhance your décor. An interior lamp is an essential complement, and there are a wide variety of possibilities, from classical floor lamps with a reading light, to very contemporary arch lamps, through to light columns. Finally, complete the room with a lamp on a table, wall, or near a wall to showcase your wall decorations. living room lights with varying intensities, such as dimmers, are especially practical and attractive. Being able to adjust the light to suit your needs or your mood significantly increases your well-being.

Dining room lights

The dining room is pretty similar to the living room, but with a small difference: Here the focal point is of course your dining room table. Whatever its shape, you cannot go wrong with a pendant light. Ideally, it perfectly illuminates a defined area while complementing your furnishings. For a more discreet but equally effective lighting, recessed spotlights are the best alternative. LED spotlights provide a powerful light with low energy consumption, making it an excellent choice for discreet dining room lights.

Bedroom lighting

The bedroom is the best room to rest in; therefore, soft and convenient bedroom lights are essential. Beyond the essential bedside lamps, which can be placed on a table or attached to the wall, a ceiling light is always useful for illuminating your bedroom. LED ceiling lights offer a warm, white light around 2,700 Kelvin, and spread a pleasant, uniform light. And bedroom lamps with a lampshade help you filter a little light and save yourself the glare from direct light. For children's rooms, lighting types will be similar, only the decoration and safety standards will be different. LED lighting is preferred in the children's play area because the lights produce very little heat, and therefore prevents accidental burns during periods of prolonged use.
