Arc lamps, a classic of modern design
Having become popular in the middle of the 20th century, arc lamps continue to enjoy great popularity in the new millennium. Innovative designers and modern light sources such as LEDs are constantly breathing new life into this timelessly beautiful luminaire. Arc lamps consist of a heavy base that provides stability, a usually widely curved neck and a lampshade. They can be used in many different ways for furnishing.

Despite its seemly restricted design specifications, the arc lamp is available in a wide range of shapes and forms. Key factors are the curvature of the luminaire, and the lampshade. In some arc lamps the light bulb is very close to the base; in others it is more than two metres away from it. The foot of the arc-shaped floor lamp is usually round, with a protruding shape and heavy materials, it must be able to bear a high weight to counterbalance the lamp properly.
The shade of arc lamps almost floats freely in the air, giving them a filigree, elegant appearance. Spherical, angular, cylindrical or conical, the lampshade usually has a classical design and is available in subtle colours such as white or beige. Of course, more peculiar styles are also available, giving the shade its own distinctive character. In addition to models made of glass and metal, there are also floor lamps made of wood, which can look very cosy.
Arc lamps for the interior
Most arc lamps find a place in the living room. Here they can stand freely and attract attention, which of course requires a corresponding amount of space. Often the floor lamps are placed behind the sofa or other places where it partly disappears. As they emit direct light downwards, they are very suitable as reading lamps. If a pendant lamp above the dining table is missing, the arc lamp can also be used to illuminate the family table.
Dimmer, touch control and LEDs
Fitted with a dimmer, the brightness of the arc lamps can be dynamically adjusted - an essential contribution to ensuring maximum comfort in the living room at any time of the day or night. Nowadays, dimmers are touch switches: the brightness level can be varied simply by touching the lamp. In addition to its low power consumption and long service life, the LED light source has the decisive advantage that it can also be used to produce coloured light!
